BOTANY OUTREACH AND EDUCATION

The Alaska Natural Heritage Botany Program participates in Citizen Science intiatives with the agencies and organizations within Alaska. Some projects currently occurring are:

  • Outreach classes and workshops to Anchorage School District middle school science teachers to teach them about Citizen Science. The Botany Program teamed up with the Zoology Program and the Environment and Naturual Resources Aquatic Ecology Program to introduce science teachers how to data collection techniques for invasive plant and animal species and water quality tests.
  • Conducting plant identification workshops
  • Helping organize the annual Rare Plant Forum
