Tracking Lists and Status Reports

Within the zoology program, all vertebrate and a selection of invertebrate species are assigned conservation status ranks that adhere to protocols developed by our parent organization, NatureServe. NatureServe has developed a rigorous protocol for assessing species status at global (G rank) and state (S Rank) levels based on about a dozen factors, including population number and size, trends, and threats.

The emphasis of the zoology program is to track and maintain current information and status ranks on species with the greatest conservation concern. We are currently updating status ranks for Alaska species with funding support from the University of Alaska, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Nongame Program, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Endangered Species Program.

The complete AKNHP tracking list is available as a pdf (60 KB). Pdfs of the phyla tracking lists are available on each phyla page.
