The Alaska Gap Analysis Project

About us

The Alaska Gap Analysis Project (AK-GAP) is a statewide representative of the National Gap Analysis Program sponsored by the Biological Resources Division of the United States Geological Survey (USGS-BRD). The primary objectives of this project are to:

  • Partner with the LANDFIRE mapping effort to create a detailed GIS map of land cover across the entire state
  • Predict the distribution and map the range of all terrestrial vertebrate species
  • Develop a GIS map depicting land stewardship and management status
  • Document the representation of vertebrate species and land cover types in areas managed for the long-term maintenance of biodiversity.
